Date:2021/07/01

According to Taipei Exchange, by the end of June 2021, International Bond Market welcomed 135 issues which hit a record high compared with the same period, and the net issuance (equaled to the amount of issuance deducted the principal repayment) of International Bonds reached US$ 13.67 billion surpassed last year indicating the market has been growing.

Taipei Exchange points out that Taiwan’s International Bond Market has become well-known among global issuers and has been attracting new issuers joining the market. In the first half of this year, the market welcomed 135 issues which made a record and increased 14.41% compared with the same period last year. The total issuance is expected to exceed 200 issues this year. Since the major investors are domestic financial institutions, with the advantage of the buyer's market, their appetite for investment determines the amount of issuance and the preferences toward issuers.

According to the analysis of Taipei Exchange, in the year 2020, the amount matured and early redeemed of the International Bond totaled US$ 47.864 billion. The buy-side reinvestment demand stimulated the appetite of bond issuance jumped to US$ 60.156 billion; however, the net issuance increased only US$ 12.29 billion. In contrast, in the first half of this year, substantial growth in the net issuance surpassed last year reached US$ 13.67 billion, of which the total issuance amounted to US$ 27.49 billion; the amount of principal repayment at maturity and early redemption were US$ 4.74 billion and US$ 9.08 billion respectively.

In addition, five issuers including the United Mexican States, Republic of Chile, Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC, MDGH GMTN (RSC) Ltd, and Shinhan Card Co., Ltd, first entered the market this year and expanded both issuer and product base for the investors.
